Martin Reeves - Music Coach / Entertainer
Known as Martin the Music Man, he has been working in the care industry as an entertainer and music coach since 2009, working mainly with the elderly and those with brain injuries and learning difficulties. He plays guitar and ukulele and The Richardson Partnership was one of his first employers. He works mainly in 8 Kingsthorpe Grove and 144 Boughton Green Road.
One of his main aims with music is to encourage participation and he comes equipped with all sorts of percussion instruments so that service users can join in and have fun. He makes each session as interactive as possible and aims to include the residents in the performance. Many have a great sense of rhythm and clearly enjoy their contribution.
Music has a profound effect on people, in terms of pure enjoyment of singing and playing along, as well as the cognitive benefits of remembering melodies and lyrics that are hidden away in the memory banks. Of course, this does also mean that certain songs have to be sung in every session!
The two Richardson homes in which Martin works are both very different and have to be approached in different ways in terms of the material he uses and the way he interacts with the service users. He enjoys the challenge of adapting to different situations and relating to the service users through the music, as no two sessions are the same.
